In Dedham Vale (“Constable country”), this 18th century watermill was bought by the Constable family and eventually inherited by John Constable’s father. The millstone was powered by two waterwheels inside the building. Water from the River Stour flowed through two arches into culverts to turn the wheels. Ink, watercolour and gouache on Bockingford cold-pressed paper.
