When the north porch of St Edward’s Church, Stow-on-the Wold, was added about 300 years ago, two yew saplings were planted either side of the doorway to enhance the entrance. These have now grown so large that they appear to be bonded to the masonry. This is thought to have inspired JRR Tolkien’s “Doors of Durin” in his “The Fellowship of the Ring”. I’ve depicted this scene with Rohrer & Klingner ink and Derwent Graphitint on Bockingford hot-pressed paper.
