High Sweden Bridge by James Underwood
High Sweden Bridge is a 17th century packhorse bridge over Scandale Beck near Ambleside. Its name is believed to be derived from “svithinn”, an old Norse word meaning land cleared for cultivation. Graphite sketch on cartridge paper. Will probably use it as reference for a painting.
