Nicely done James , it’s always good to have new stuff to use and try out especially for the first time.

Thank you Paul. Three things I’ve learnt so far: 1) Sennelier oil pastels are very soft and favour an impressionist, not realist, style; 2) A4 is probably too small and fiddly for a typical landscape scene with oil pastels; and 3) two oil pastel layers give good and often predictable results, but three layers are more likely to result in “happy accidents”.

A Christmas gift of Sennelier oil pastels had its first outing with this late afternoon contre-jour scene at the edge of a local woodland. On Daler Rowney mixed media paper (A4).
