The Draw Arch
This magnificent lime kiln, one of many in Cumbria’s limestone areas, is near High Cup Nick in the North Pennines. All that now remains is the arch through which air was drawn by the intense fire needed to convert limestone into quicklime for building and agriculture. Quicklime could also be raked from the kiln through the arch. Line-and-wash, drawn with Rohrer & Klingner black ink in a Lamy Safari pen on rough cold-pressed paper.
