Lovely landscape Ian - I like all of them in your gallery

Four excellent postings today, Ian. Your watercolours display lovely composition and are professionally executed. How I envy your skills!!

Your traditional landscapes are stunning, i really like them all...hope there's more to come!

Another lovely landscape Ian

A highly skilled watercolour Ian

A really impressive batch of watercolours - there's a great deal to be said, actually everything to be said, for the traditional, beautifully accomplished watercolour painting in the hands of someone who loves his medium. The colour is so right for this time of year - cool greens, browns, and greys, a cool blue; and just the right amount of detail.

Beautiful country lane, great colours Ian.

I agree with everything above ian....super watercoloursI

This is lovely Ian.

Beautiful, Ian, what a lovely light in this and in your other paintings here, and I agree with all the previous comments. One thing that seems to catch my eye in your paintings is that they're in a figurative (not sure, is that the right word?), realistic sort of style, yet the outlines of the tree twig ends tend to be slightly stylised into repeating round shapes. For me, and this is just my opinion and how my eye sees it, I think I'd like to see a more random pattern somehow. I hope you don't mind my saying this, I like your work very much, it is just how I see it.

Many thanks to everyone for their comments. The tree tops always provoke comment when I exhibit at shows and Caroline is not the first person to make this point. They are in the style of Rowland Hilder and people seem to either like that style or not. In some of the paintings I use a very light wash over the ends of the branches so that the effect is minimised, in others I like to drop heavier colours into the wash in order to create atmosphere. At the end of the day its all down to personal choice

P.S. I've been thinking and I don't think it is for me to say what I'd like to see! That's me and my stuff, I do believe. Sorry! Your paintings are made as they are, and are beautiful as they are.

Caroline. There is no need to be sorry, Everyone has there own ideas. I always feel that art is all about provoking an opinion and comment is always welcome. The worst thing for an artist must be if people are apathetic about their work. If you are interested in seeing any more of my work have a look at my website : www.ianridleywatercolours.co.uk.
