This painting forms a part of a small body of work that has been inspired by the ballet The Metamorphosis based on Franz Kafka’s short story. The work was very affecting and deeply moving. The title may be considered to have a religious context which is not the case. The phrase describes the state in which the protagonists find themselves in the most complete and concise way.
