Prickly pear cactus by Grace McKee

You have three fab images posted today Grace. Hard to choose a favourite, but i think it is this one, for its' unusual subject and wonderful use of colour. When I say unusual, I suppose it is from the perspective of someone living the The Cotswolds in the UK, we dont get many Cacti here.

Agree with Angela, this certainly caught my eye in the gallery, marvellous use of colour!

Thank you both for your kind comments. Having moved here from the UK, I find I miss the beauriful spring flowers and green lawns of England. Guess I'll have to return for a workshop,.

I love the colours also Grace and the lovely marks you have made with the oil paint. I'm afraid England hasn't been very green of late. It has been covered in white snow and is now a slushy muddy colour and COLD, VERY COLD!!!! Jx

This is just great - colours and shapes and texture. Very impressionistic! Plenty of them here in the south of France - one of my brother-in-law's favourite subjects. Do yours give the "figs" too?(Figues de Barbarie)

Avril, yes we do get lots of fruit on thes cacti (they are also full of prickles) and we makie cactus jelly - syrup in my case as it never gels! Where in the south of France do they grow? We will be Aix en Provence in June,

I would say they grow in any dry rocky places south of Montelimar, as far as the sea, east and west! Maybe I'll try to make some jelly or syrup too.
