I like the lighting in this. Draws your eyes to the cottages, against the darkness of the hills. Great sky too, very threatening!

I got asked once during a gallery open day by a member of the public looking at this painting why none of my paintings (or at least very few) had blue skies, my answer was that a pretty blue sky is usually boring to look at, very boring to paint and besides with the places I like to paint it would be unrealistic to paint blue skies and I wasn't into fantasy work which she fortunately found very amusing. She is now a good customer and has bought several paintings - interestingly none of which feature a blue sky!

very typical of the Lake District weather! I also like the way you have highlighted the houses.
