I have just got a set of Derwent's Inktense Paint Pans and decided to have a play. I found it easier to make a 'lake' in the pallet for colour mixing with the pans than I did with the Inktense blocks. The pans are more akin to watercolour pans and are not chalky, like the blocks. The colour is good but dries faster than watercolour paint so you have to ensure that the paper is wet enough and that you work quickly if you want to soften hard edges or mix colours on the paper. The only negative comment that I would make is that the set does not include a white. Not a problem if you stick to watercolour techniques but I woulod still like to see one as it is so useful. You can get round this by cutting the supplied sponge in half and then putting half of a white Inktense block in the space left.
