Lovely portrait Glynne

Lovely story and a great portrait Glynne! Your sister must be ever so pleased!

I really like this and the story behind it. I hope your sister likes it.

What a superb idea and so very personal. A portrait that has more than an ordinary portrait.

I really like this one; the colours and composition work well, and I also love birch trees.

Brilliant, Glynne I hope this painting will be presented to the next generation of the 'keeper' of your family history - not an easy task.

Many thanks for all your encouraging comments. I haven't actually shown this to my sister yet. I finished it about a month ago but needed to live with it a bit before I was sure it was ready to be seen. Now that you have all given me such a boost I will present it to her a soon as I can. Thank-you so much.

This is such a beautiful painting, and the thought that went into it.

So different, a lovely painting to treasure.

What a great idea to stitch and pad out the trees. You certainly have lots of imagination and all to the good. Your sister should be delighted with this. Lovely to have a present made for you that has so much thought put into it.

This piece is a portrait of my sister. I chose the birch trees to go with the portrait as Birch is our original family name. The trees have been stitched and padded before the canvas is stretched to create a low relief, I have then added small bundles of linen each linked with a series of chain stitch threads. My sister has a role in our family of keeping things together and documenting our history so I felt that this was a way of showing the links with our heritage and family story.
