Hard to resist those eyes, Glennis! The heads are beautifully done.

Beautifully painted Glennis.

Thank you for your comments

Absolutely adorable Glennis, knowing springers, I'm amazed you managed to get them to sit still long enough for a photo, never mind a painting!!!

Thank you all for your comments. I actually took about 30 photographs and as you so aptly said Fiona they did not sit still, so had to be painted from photographs and even then it was separate photographs and just got the best two I could find, he was pleased with the end result anyway.Their names are Penny and Poppy and one is good and one is naughty!

T his picture of spaniels ha dinstant appeal because I have an English Springer. I think these are field spaniel aren't they? They are beautifully painted and I'd like to know how you got so many lively tones in the liver heads without creating mud. I've had a number of goes at painting my dog but cannot crack it either with realistic tones or loads of expressive wet into wet.

Thank you for your comment Phiip. Not sure what type of spaniel they are but my brother does use them for his shooting sport. I just layered the paint on, starting off with a very pale wash and building the tones up where needed. Takes up quite a lot of time but I would rather go softy, softly rather than end up with too dark a colour. It seems to work.

They are lovely!! They both have quite different faces and vibes, don't they? Lovely painting well up to your usual very high standard.
