Marwick Head and Kitchener’s Memorial, Orkney

Nicely done Gillian.

Very good Gillian.

Some lovely brushwork on the cliffs; a tough landscape captured very well.

Unfortunately I’ve never visited Orkney but you seem to have some fascinating old buildings, monuments etc, and the landscape to show them off! Super painting Gillian.

Excellent painting Gillian, the rugged cliff , the sea and the foreground are really good. The monument looks so much a part of the landscape it almost as if it grown from the cliff.

Thanks for your comments! Tessa Orkney is FULL to the brim with history, Neolithic sites, Viking sites, monuments, it is a gem. Kitchener’s memorial was built by the people of Orkney. He drowned just off of Marwick Head when the HMS Hampshire sank in mysterious circumstances in 1916 over 700 men lost their lives.

Love the rich drama and history you have portrayed here Gillian. A lovely painting.

Beautifully done Gillian. I like how you’ve portrayed the rock strata and the grasses. It’s added texture to the painting.

You have captured Orkney beautifully.

Well done. love the shimmering light on the sea and the bold strokes.
