I think I was making a statement here along the lines......can a group of pixels ever really replace the brush stroke and still be art?

A difficult question, Roib. The jury is still out for me regarding digital art. This may make a good subject on the Forum!

Contentious subject but like the point you're making.

Computers are used by professionals in every walk of life to enhance their skills or produce a task not humanly possible. Surgeons use then to enhance their skills in operating theatres. Is it art, yes, I believe it is. It may be a different type of art than that of using a brush but some fantastic art has been produced using this method I believe. Sorry for the waffle but you did ask. It's not a method I would use but I can appreciate it.

In my opinion artists have always utilised new technology, Canaletto (allegedly) used a camera obscura, oil paint in tubes obviated the need for the artist to mix his own paint, the old masters used apprentices to paint the bulk of their works, they often just added the important parts The important thing is the vision & imagination of the artist, not the method to translate it into a painting, digital art doesn’t create a piece of art, nor does it enhance the skill of the artist if it is used properly

Very clever!

All good points, people. Thanks for your comments so far
