I can see why you asked him to sit for you. Such an interesting face. Reminds me a bit of portraiture by Ivan Kramskoy in 19th century.

What happens to people in the Antipodes? I have a cousin out there who has also gone peculiarly hairy..... still, he'd be a gift to the portraitist. Fine painting.

Thanks for the comments - I wish I could see what some of you look like - I'm sure that facial fuzz isn't the exclusive product of a life down under. (Incidentally you can see my sorry puss with it's 40 years of growth in the current [Oct2010] issue of THE ARTIST) Then again if you ever saw me without the camouflage you'd understand why I have my beard.

Grantley - oil on canvas 21cm x 30cm When you have such wonderful faces to paint from who would'nt want to be a portaitist? Grantley is one of the members of my current class and was kind enough to allow me to paint him. Although almost monchromatic this painting is all about expression and character and allowed for a lot of loose brushwork.
