Muscovy Drake by Gerhard Ritter

Oh my goodness....a Muscovy! I know them well, having kept them years ago in Lancashire! Not the prettiest of ducks, but amenable and gentle enough. Female laid 14 eggs and hatched them in the porch...Once dry, they leapt out and followed their mother straight to the pond....happy memories. This painting, like all your wildlife work, is very very well done. Thank you for showing it.

Ruth - I enjoyed your story about your mum - I dare say many children have their own bad memories of nasty roosters - I know I have. Makes you wonder though how many of the modern generation will ever know the warmth of a newly laid egg or the gentle softness of a young duckling.

Loved vivid Duck portrayal Gerhard.

Oil on Panel - 15cm x 15cm. Occasionally I like to work on simple gessoed masonite panels - the feel is completely different to canvas - there's a lot less resistance to the brush and I find I can usually paint a degree faster than on canvas.
