Young chimp by Gerhard Ritter

Young chimp

My late Aunt Amy was one of the first to rear one of these characters, at Bristol Zoo, when its mother had either died or rejected it; and this chap looks very like him, one Timothy - must have been around 50 years ago; I remember him in his nappy; she showed such enormous patience, and I believe he survived and thrived - but it was so long ago. I can never forget the trust in his eyes, or his vulnerability - it transformed my view of animals, and made me realize we're in no way superior to them: this painting has been an emotional experience for me, thanks for showing it. Not often that a painting can bring tears to one's eyes.

This is quite stunning. You've captured the character wonerfully.

Amazing, love the portrait.... really captured the spirit the young chimp.

Stunning face on this young chimp, you have caught the vulnerability of the youngster perfectly here Gerhard

Oil on canvas - 30cm x 40cm. To kick off this gallery I thought I'd select one of my favourite animals - the chimpanze. As with many of my human subjects this one is on A3 canvas from a pad.
