Thanks everyone for your comments and observations. The original version was done last year as an exercise in watercolour painting and achieved mostly what I was trying to do. I did a series of about thirty watercolours purely as practice. Just recently I have been reworking all of these using pastel to try to add a little clarity to the watercolours, for my own satisfaction only. In this one just a little Pastel was added to the harbour boats etc. and the buildings, also adding some colour to the group of people in the middle distance. It may not seem much but comparing the two paintings I believe that adding the pastel has improved it.

The ex chairman of our art group used to paint lovely acrylic landscapes but always did the sky in pure watercolour to get light and transparency there. I feel you are getting the same effect by adding pastel, it works well.

Love the clarity of the washes. A lovely atmospheric piece.
