You could try filling in some of the gaps in the above picture. Make sure that every mark you place on the paper actually means something. First, make the foreground trees a little darker, Then, slightly widen the middle ground trees. Leave their tonal values as they are but clean up some of the shadows. Last, place some thinner trees in still lighter tones between the existing ones. Make sure the bottom of the trunks stop higher up the page than the other trees to give them position within the scene. With some hesitation I suggest you see my efforts, (search on Lionel for my gallery and look for Trees and Trees Part Two), and the advice I was given. I hope this helps. Regards.

Charcoal on Ingres papaer, A4. My latest preliminary sketch at the picture my wife wants on our longe wall. This time she liked the trees and the background colour but wants to have more of them closer together. Back to the sketchbook.........
