I see the flaws, but nonetheless it's a convincing study taken as a whole, with some very nice touches of detail and modelling. Mentors are meant to be critical, but I hope s/he also emphasized the picture's many good points.

Agree w you Robert...my mentor, an academic painter, was strict and firm w me..and that's the right way to go imo. It is too easy to be "blown away" by compliments by ppl who in all honesty have very little knowledge as they praise in the same way a really good artwork and a mediocre one. Critiques can only do you good and make you become a better artist if you follow them. I see the flaws...and considering it was 13 yrs ago it is a completely different world for me now w all the experience and knowledge...
