Lovely painting, Carole...not easy flowers to portray. Just a suggestion...would a touch more yellow add impact, do you think?

Pastels work well with this picture Carole, Your choice of background colour enhances the flowers and results in a lovely work of Art!

Lovely delicate work. Very pleasing.

Thanks James and Avril for your comments, I appreciate them muchly. Thanks Ruth, it does need a bit of something, you could be right about the yellow. I got the idea from a photo which was in a garden magazine, it had a very dark background. Bit worried I would make it worse if I did more work to it.

I like the subtle colours here. I am using pastels quite a bit at the moment myself and it is interesting to see others approach to using the medium. I think I can learn from your subtlety, I tend to wade in quite heavy early on, I think. If my experience is anything to go on, this will be brighter in real life that here on screen, I find that the colour in my work is much stronger in reality than the screen shows, so for what its worth, I think , leave well alone and congrats on a lovely piece of work.

Carole this is very beautiful. Lovely delicate touch on the tubular flowers. This reminds me of Cobaea Scandens - Cup and Saucer vine. I grow this from seed and makes a truly beautiful climber although a little tender. Smashing pastel.

Thank you Angela, best of luck with your pastelling. You are right, it is more colourful in real life and I took the photo late in the day so not a great light. Jeanette I think your naming is correct, I guessed it was canterbury, but looking again, must be 'cups and saucers!' Thank you for your encouraging comment. x

Defihnitely another masterpiece Carole, lovely and fresh looking

Delicious colours - love the way you are using the pastels.

Thank you Jorja and Thea for encouraging comments.

Another well executed pastel. You've handled the delicate flowers really well. Without detracting from that, I actually dissagree with an earlier comment - I would have gone for a darker background, to contast with the subtle colours of the flower and leaves. But that's me - I'm a relative beginner to art, so take no notice! I'd be very happy to produce work like this.

Thanks Tony. I did actually go for a darker background in the end and it did look better. So thank you.
