Lovely Sketch Carole I have never done any sketching like this , I never have chance , I'm at work 5 days then I'm out walking with my wife and dog

Great example of shading Carole, one I need to follow if I can.

Great pen work Carole. are you going to put some colour into it?

I am in a similar position to Dennis that I dont get the chance to sketch like this as I cant walk very far. add to this that I am 90 and the nearest country dykes are miles away. However I can admire a lovely ink sketch . well done Carole

Wonderful work as always, Carole. I especially like the structure and simplicity of your drawing that contribute to the story of the wall.

Are we getting some colour carole?

Stunning, Carole. This is the style of sketching that I love: lively and spontaneous!

Thank you all. I did this from imagination so no walking for this one, it only took about half hour. I bought this rapidograph pen years ago, found it in a drawer this afternoon, filled it with ink and thought it would not work gave it a go and scribbled this . I appreciate your comments very much. I nearly put colour on but thought I would ruin it :) but I will now John and Peter suggested it.

Lovely, Carole! I wish I had this skill with sketching!

Beautiful sketch and hatching Carole.

Beautiful and skillful Carole. Well done.

A lovely little sketch Carole! I love it just as it is but agree it would make a lovely pen and wash drawing too.

As you know Carole this is one of my favourite mediums that I like working in and especially stone. I really like this and in the area both you and I have access to there are plenty of examples that we can see and file away in our memory banks to use later on. I like the free and loose pen work it really gives it a feeling of life along with the Foxgloves behind the wall, nice one Carole.

Carole as an after thought re adding colour I would suggest making a copy and putting colour to that, I say this because in the past with my pen and ink, I have done work specifically as a pen and ink then added a bit of colour and wished I had not unlike when I set out to do a pen and wash, so just something to think about maybe?.

Beautiful subject and study. I did a pen and wash of a Cornish stone wall when I started painting three years ago. I'm still very drawn to their neauty( no pun intended) Diana

Many thNks for your comments. Malcolm a good idea, I will do a copy and try the colour first then draw into it. I think that is what you mean? As the colour will look less confined.. Diana I agree stone walls are really fascinating with their textures and moss and lichen etc.

Carole you can do as you say and do the colour first, but I was actually meaning make a copy of the line drawing and then add colour to the copy of the line drawing if that makes sence. I often do it that way, the drawing first and some colour later just to enhance a little, I also do it the way you said and lay colour down first and then enhance with line.

Ideal subject while on the hoof Carole, Should be practised by everyone INHO

This is really lovely Carole and I am not experienced at all but I can appreciate the overall beauty of this sketch.

Super work Carole.

Thanks so much, you are very encouraging I do appreciate it.
