Little terns
The little terns set up a breeding colony here about five years ago; they didn’t have much luck at first, but the past two years the Durham Wildlife Trust have been guarding them against disturbance and foxes, and they’ve done very well. Here’s some of the fledglings I saw last week, still being fed before they set off for west Africa. Watercolour on Bockingford CP, 14 x10".
