Thanks Steve. The pictures I like best are often the ones that start with no pencil on the paper at all and no idea of where the edges are going to be! They often end up not quite square and difficult to frame though.

I am not surprised you are pleased with this painting, those trees are to die for, I love the colour, the shape, everything about them, and everyone who has dogs will know this view of them staring each other out until they eventually get close enough to nose each other and break down the barriers, they are so funny when they meet each other for the first time aren't they, and even after the first meeting, you have captured that hesitation in two dogs meeting perfectly here

I love this Derby park and have missed it very much since moving overseas. This is painted from a photograph of our dog woody, when he abandoned his favourite ball in favour of staring out another dog. After the advice in the most recent issue of leisure painter, I've started to 'checking' my paintings by photographing them with the monochrome setting on my camera to see how balanced the contrast is. This time I added in the two trees on the right in a slightly darker tone and I'm pleased with the result.
