Has anything changed
I painted this after an illustrated talk on the art of Otto Dix. He was a German artist and was horrified at the way the returning German soldiers were treated after WW1. There was no provision for the number disabled, traumatised and homeless soldiers who were left begging on the street. Otto Dix painted many scenes of distressed soldiers and this made me paint one of ours. Not much has changed
