I do like PG although I do realise that it is frowned on by many, but that doesn't bother me one iota, I use what I like and am never influenced by others. Looks really good anyway Dermot, well worth a try.

Worked really well in this painting Dermot, very nice Work indeed. By the way I have googled JFW and found very interesting, so book on its way from eBay book store, thanks for advice.

Your experiment has turned out beautifully Dermot, colour mixes I will take a note of myself. Never used PG with r sienna or b umber but did use it once with lemon yellow....makes a brighter richer green.

It looks very effective in this lovely painting Dermot. I use it sometimes in my flower paintings as it tones down some bright colours. I'm with Alan on this, using what I want rather than what I should!

Beautiful painting Dermot. Paynes gray has worked very well. Thank you for sharing your experience with colours.

Lovely 'soft' feel to this one Dermot, good use of wet in wet technique in the background. I have read that P.G. Does lighten a lot when dry but it it does give a good range of greens when used with various yellows.

Recently Alan Bickley asked me if I used paynes grey in a watercolour I posted and I told him I never use it which got me thinking that the great J F Watson used it as a foliage colour with raw sienna for light passages and burnt umber for the darks ; I've use it in this one and I must say I like it a lot ?? Thank you Alan for mentioning paynes grey and how effectively Ron Ranson used it as it made me re - think my position regards this colour also thank you David Johns for mentioning that he already uses these mixes
