First Railway commission

Oh lovely Derek and it was your first railway commission as well! what a beauty and joy of joys its a steam train, I love them and I love this!

Thank you Ros, done a lot since then and that must have been over 15 years back, but most nowadays in oil. It's a T9 on the Watercress Line if you're interested. Hope you're not a "rivet counter"

This is brilliant, Derek! Just marvellous use of watercolour to depict this iconic scene. I so remember playing hockey at school on the playing field just by the railway. The steam train used to rush by and leave us all in a completely white fog for about 5 minutes. I hated hockey and blessed the trains for giving me a break from having a ball aimed at me (I was goalkeeper). Anyway, I think you have done an amazing job with this painting - the steam is so well done.

Thank you Thea, I'm assuming you were at school near this line or were you? I have done lots like this, many commissions or maybe just as exhibition pieces and all sold. I now do them in oil, but I did pick out photos with a lot of steam and exhaust as I did like to depict that. I was born in a railway town so maybe it's in my blood.

You can see how large this is with me standing behond it. Quite daunting, but the chap was a good friend and a railway nerd and wanted a copy of a railway magazine back cover which I did.

Eleventyeight as my hashing pals called my new age recently, it's supposed to sound better. Trying to paint every day in acrylics using only expired credit/debit cards, and partially succeeding as they're only for me and not show these days.
