The Palatine was the name given to an express train that ran from Manchester Central, departing at 2.35pm, to London St Pancras, arriving 6.30pm. The painting loosely depicts me aged 12 in 1959 on the platform getting drenched with steam whilst taking a photograph of the Britannia Class Locomotive number 70014 "Iron Duke heading the train just as it was about to move off. BR Green of the locomotive, LMS Maroon of the coaches, deep red of the brickwork are reasonably true colours i think. Happy Days!
