Lunchtime Sketch - Dr Johnson's House by Deborah Warner

This was a very productive lunch hour Deborah! It's so much more enjoyable sketching 'on the spot' is'nt it? The fact that the results are not always as accurate does not seem to matter, there is more life in them somehow. I look forward to seeing the colour version. The only advice i would offer is to continue to practice on site and you will get even better. To encourage you, have a look at 'Slattocks Lock' in my portfolio, which I painted on Tuesday on site. I'm sure you will do much better.

Nice work Deborah. Not knowing the building, I couldn't possibly say the top windows are too big.........so why mention it? A nice study and more so as it was done in a lunchtime

I agree with Stephen and Tony: keep on doing this, Deborah, it is very well done. I never paint outside but very often I do +/- 20 minute pen and wash sketches. I even once used coffee for the wash. Give us more of this!

Lovely drawing and this has worked well just using the sepia. Perhaps a little more colour next time will add another dimension, but you should be very happy with how this one has turned out.

Thanks for the comments. I will try a bit more watercolour next time at this location, although I find that medium much harder to achieve but I will keep trying.

Agree with above comments and love your story about being distracted by the school kids and loosing the plot a bit in your pen work, people around us can be a distraction, but certainly a great way to spend your lunch hour
