Jackal Buzzard by Deborah Martin

Keep going with this theme, you have a real feeling for it and just need to get one or two things right; the talons are a little underdone, I think, and I get the feeling you've used black or Payne's Grey: tiny quantities of these can work, but mixing a black with french ultra and, eg, burnt sienna or burnt umber usually works much better. You may well have been right not to emphasize the eye too much, the only other point I'd make is that the bulk of the tail, at the point where it leaves the body, is a little tonally abrupt. But this is SO hard to do in transparent watercolour, and I think this is really impressive on the whole; the angle of the head is perfectly done, and you've been courageous enough to give those massive wings their full weight and span. Like it very much.
