Seal on the shore

Seal on the shore

Lovely. I love seeing the seals when we are holidaying on the west coast, Gairloch etc. Used pastels quite a lot but not on velour, will have to give it a try if it gives results like this. Well done.

Very effective. The seal skin is realistic. Beautiful.

Very effective and lovely water. I like this better than the cow as the cow blends into the background too much for me. Good cow though.

This is great and I think the background fits in beautifully. Well done.

Drawing good but painting lacks depth. It desperately needs catch lights in the eyes and some differential tone.

Thanks again for your comments. I am not sure which of these two animal portraits I prefer. The tonal effects may be a little muted because of the scan not picking up the depth of pastel colour on the ivory tinted paper, sometimes hard to adjust the colours aswell on photoshop. But I may take the advice of two glints in the eyes, but very dark and sunken.

I know what you mean about loosing colour in scanning! Love the seal though, very beautiful galleries, best regards, colleen

This is a Grey Seal popping up out of the water on the shore. have seen loads of these playing in seaweed or on the rocks near the shore. This is the first time I have used pastels on velour, it is a lovely soft velvety feel, this is the resulting effect.
