Autumn in the Lakes by Dawn Blatherwick

To try to capture the muted tones of autumn is always tricky, you're pushed towards the oranges and greens. I have tried in this piece to reduce the chroma and mixed a lot of the colours with grey, I do usually love the intensity of colour but in this piece I wanted the calmness and the distance of the hills to shine through. It was directly after a storm and the sky was still grey, but the optimism of better weather was on its way. Gouache on paper A3
