Well this has turned out superbly Dawn, a very pleasing result so well done.

Lovely work Dawn, well done in persevering.

Much better than your first stage - you've built up the texture of the cliff much more convincingly. Always pays to take advice, when you take it from the right people!

Good start Dawn...

So sorry I commented on the what I thought was the first one... I’m a little but dizzy to day. Alan gave good advice and it’s worked really well. 🙃

Thank you Alan, Stephen, Robert and Sylvia. I really appreciated your input, Alan. Thanks for helping me improve my work.

That sounds like some good advice Dawn, it seems to have worked well, its something I will have to try.

Really terrific work Dawn, love the blends on the sky and the cliffs

Thank you, Linda and David.

I saw this in the forum, but made no comment as I'm not a landscape painter. I think the reworking has paid off, there's a better sense of distance now. You should be pleased with it, Dawn...it's good work.

Well you've had a good response Dawn, it does look good though I must say.

Lovely texture in those cliffs Dawn and the wispy clouds are very convincing. I like the looseness of this too, I tend to overwork my pastels.

Thank you Lewis and Val. I did go back and make it much looser after Alan's wise words, Val.

I didn’t see the original Dawn but this is gorgeous.

It looks really great now Dawn, the cliffs are looking super.

Thank you, Fiona and Margaret. If anyone wants to see the original and the good advice I was given, it's in the forum on the WIP page.

12 1/2 by 8 1/2 pastel. I reworked this after some good advice form Alan Bickley in the forum. It really is worth asking on here if you are stuck. I didn't like the initial pastel layer I put down,so I painted over it with water to produce an underpainting and then built up the layers with pastel pencil and soft pastel.

About the Artist
Dawn Halliwell

I started painting in Jan 2016 after the death of my youngest sister. I found it great therapy and still do! I love experimenting with different techniques and media. I mainly work in pastel or oils for pet portraits, but I also enjoy doing ink portraits with the odd landscape thrown in for good…
