lovely Dawn , I guess this is Jack Dawn you sound like me and my wife I love walking taking my little dog Arthur , it gives me relaxation and pleasure . I think its a fantastic painting of a friend .

I think this is one of the most original animal portraits I have seen, really well executed.

Nice doggie, and a brave subject to tackle with fur and water but you did it justice.

This is a very fine painting, but the thing that really impresses is that he looks wet. Lovely work, Dawn.

Striking painting Dawn .The water is wonderful. Great movement and translucency.

Beautifully done, Dawn, and such a lovely expression.

Wonderful dog portrait, love the colours and the way you've made the water look, great title too.

As Lewis says, that fur really does look wet, everything is believable - the water and the glimpses beneath. I bet Jack likes it.

The wet fur is portrayed so well. Overall a lovely work of art.

Thank you all for your lovely comments. I feel a bit of a fraud though. This isn't my lovely Jack. It was done from a photo I was given in class. I will have to do one of Jack now! And yes, Dennis, Jack is my best friend next to my husband of course! Glad you have commented on the wet fur. I tried to follow the tutors instructions, but it wasn't working for me, so I did my own thing and I am pleased with the result.

Great picture; full of expression and character; I know what it like to change direction; reinvent myself. We need more art groups to help people like us; it a wonderful theory. I hooked and full of passion for art. Beautiful painting. 😀

Very skilfully done. Like the complementary colours Dawn.

Brilliant Dawn, really well done 😃

Oh this is wonderful Dawn, lovely rich colours, the water is fabulous. You can actually see him swimming!

He’s gorgeous, Dawn. I take it he’s a retriever because they love water and his wet fur is floating around him. Excellent work.

Irresistible work! Love the wonderful sense of fun that just emanates from this lovely piece.

This is a real beauty Dawn,

It’s all been said Dawn, a cracking painting.

Beautiful painting Dawn, he looks alive.

I haven't done much since Xmas cos I have been a bit under the weather. This 10 x 8 inch pastel on pastelmat started at my first session at a new group and finished at home. Slowly building my collection of pastels and trying new techniques..

About the Artist
Dawn Halliwell

I started painting in Jan 2016 after the death of my youngest sister. I found it great therapy and still do! I love experimenting with different techniques and media. This year, I have set myself a challenge of working on my portrait skills, but I do love to paint animals and landscapes…
