It is slightly spooky David, but if the mum loved it, who cares!

As Ros says - if Mum loved it then job done! However, having done a few baby and child portraits, I can only pass on what I have learned and that is that you do have to warm up the skin tones and the colour of lips, etc to avoid that 'china doll' effect. Even if the photo doesn't show the skin in warmer tones, it does make a more flattering portrait. Babies do go very pale when they go to sleep (spookily so sometimes - gives you a real fright!) but I think you have to ignore that and do what the painting needs rather than what you see. I admit my expertise is limited, but just thought this might help in the future. It was a difficult portrait - I wouldn't have liked to try it - so well done.

I was commissioned to paint this photo. This picture doesn't do the painting justice. Sort of looks a bit spooky. I was worried but the babies mother loved it. So I must have done a good job. What's your thoughts! You can see I've been busy with all my other posts
