Maybe strengthen the tones on the gate a bit - otherwise it fades away in contrast with the tree, and perhaps soften the hard lines in the stone wall and replace them with variations of tone (darker, in this case) and colour. But the composition is good and gives a sense of direction to your lane, and I like the light shining through the gate - it's just that the struts of the gate would be much stronger given the light is behind it, and the stone would be darker too - which you'd have seen if the darks of the gate's slats had been more defined: everything relates to everything else.

Lovely, Thanks for your information and comments Robert, I shall certainly take them on board, that is one of the beauties of this website, as a beginner I love the feedback so that I can hopefully improve as time goes by.

I love the shadows of the tree and gate, they are perfect. The texture of the tree trunk is really interesting. I also like the pattern of the grass, relating to the pattern in the rocks. Robert (below)has given very good tips if you wanted to work on the painting further.

Thank you Lorna, yes I had considered Roberts advice, unfortunately due to an accident to my hand, which is taking a long time to heal I am just getting back into painting after almost a couple of years. Your advice though is very much appreciated and I will update when I feel confident.
