Carrickfergus departure
The history books ( even Google! ) will tell you the last mainline steam hauled passenger service in Britain ( excluding narrow gauge ) was BR’s 15 guinea special from Liverpool to Carlisle on the 11th August 1968, however the last mainline steam hauled passenger service in the UK indeed the British Isles was this one, the 17.25 from Whitehead to Belfast on the 31st March 1970, and depicted here departing Carrickfergus en route, and you could have travelled on it for the princely sum of 3/9d!
