I think you have a very subtle and great skill in using oil paint. I agree with the abstract quality, the positive shape of the white swans and the negative shape of the black water. The orange beaks also add to the abstract quality, orange, black and white shapes.

This is beautifully painted and such a lovely subject.

Thank you both for your lovely comments. Swans are so aesthetically pleasing they are a perfect subject to paint. I will definately paint this subject matter again.

This is a lovely picture. It is very evocative.

One gloriously sunny day, whilst looking down from the keyside of the River Ouse at St Ives in Cambrigeshire, I was lucky enough to view Swans that inhabit these waters. I was drawn to their beautiful shapes, the brilliant white of their feathers contrasting starkly with the blackness of the river. Photographed from above the composition was almost abstract but very powerful. After taking 20 or 30 photographs I decided to render one of the stronger images in Oils.
