Very good Chris and what an interesting story

Excellent portrait Chris.

A lovely portrait of Captain RN, your mother's cousin, a nice tribute for your family history too!

I really like this portrait and the colour works well. Your words add to the impact.

Thanks for you lovely and encouraging comments. I have painted a number of portraits of family members, mostly from old black and white and faded photos. Using a single pastel pencil does make a good painting

A portrait of one of my Mother's uncles. As a newly promoted Captain RN he commanded HMS Defence at the battle of Jutland 1916. The ship was hit by a salvo of heavy shells from a German battleship and blew up. No survivors. His sister, Grace Venn Ellis was a well recognized artist living in East Anglia.
