Eilean Donan Castle by Chris Downing

Eilean Donan Castle

Hi Chris, I love your blues in this one. Great sense of recession in the hills. Painstaking detail in the castle walls. The sourse of light ( I assume projectors ) is captured very well. But I cannot help the feeling that the picture feels a bit ' tired' (espesially in the area of embankment surrounding the castle). I hope I have not been too critical. I think perhaps less detail on the parapets at the furtherest walls and embankment surronding the castle and just a hint that they are there would help.

Lovely atmospheric painting! Colours are very effective and I like it!

A scene I know well as we always passed the castle on the way to Skye. Wonderful strong watercolour. Fantastic light on the castle and in the reflections. (NB Thank you for your kind comment on my painting).

I really like this and the wonderful blues you have used. It is always so difficult to know how much detail to put in when painting a scene like this but I think you have managed it fine. I too have passed this many times and have many photos but have never had the courage to attempt to paint it. Brilliant reflections.

I find this most impressive, feel I am actually in a boat on the water...the depth and reflections are perfect.

I've seen many paintings of Eilean Donan, but this isn't the usual angle - that and the brooding colours you've brought to the painting remind us of just what this building really was, a stronghold made to resist assault.

Lovely use of strong watercolour, very colourful and I like the way you have lit up the castle in this evening- light scene. Very well done. Thanks Chris for your kind comment on Snowdrops.
