Many thanks, John.

Lovely colours and lovely portrait, Cesare. I always paint on rough watercolour paper, 300lb Waterford, it's like cardboard. I like it and it saves me stretching paper on a board, I'm getting a bit lazy!

Thank you Ellen for your kind comment. For now I painted on 140lb paper, but I will try to paint on 300lb. Thank you for sharing your experience, Ellen.

The 'tooth' on the paper adds a nice texture I think Cesare but I am biased, I hate hot pressed paper except for detailed drawings. I even prefer 'not' for my flower paintings.

A great portrait Cesare.

Thank you, Carole, for your comment and for your advice. For portraits I feel myself more comfortable with smooth paper.

Thank you, Margaret.

A lovely portrait Cesare, a beautiful pose and your new brush seems to work well.

Many thanks David for your kind comment.

Like the light on his face Cesare and his expression.

Many thanks, Louise.

another fine portrait Cesare showing the character well

Many thanks, David.

Can read the character and the paper doesn't detract from a fine portrait Cesare.

Many thanks Derek for your kind comment and for your advice.

Good work.

Thanks so much, Timothy, much appreciated.

Very very good. Love the shadow. The texture does not detract from the final image. However, I too prefer to paint on hot press, smooth!

Your use of light and shade and complementary colours and interesting tones have created a painting with much impact - love it

A lot of immediacy and vitality in this piece, Cesare. Good work!

Watercolour on Fabriano rough 23 x 31 cm. I painted this portrait for testing my new "da Vinci" brush cat tongue size 12, and I liked it. I'm not sure that rough paper fits for portraits.
