Lovely expressive portrait, Catherine. I think it's so difficult to achieve in watercolour - the eyes and the light on the face and tousled hair are lovely.

Another stunnig portrait Catherine

Wow !!! Wonderful gallery, watercolours as I can only hope to one day achieve, in part at best. You have a great talent and I will look for others posted in the future to admire. Best regards Chris

A great looking lad wonderfully realized.

Wonderful happy portrait. I would love to know how you do your hair, as it is always so successful. I struggle with hair in my portraits and am desperate to get better at it. Any tips?

Beautiful natural portrait Catherine.

Thanks for everyone's comments! Thea, for hair I firstly mask in the highest highlights using fluid. Then I loosely block in a whole area with a dark wash using a generously loaded squirrel mop brush - Kitchen roll on hand to push back and shape the edges of this area. Then, while the wash is still wet I drop in the mid-lights which breaks up the dark area. I will then use the same mid tones over the masked areas to incorporate and soften them and lift off any mid lights to tie in. Hope this helps! Catherine

Recent portrait. The pose was fairly static so hopefully the treatment of the background added a bit of "lift".
