The photo that I used to draw from was very blurred and dark so lots of artistic licence used!!!

A lovely pastel Carolyn. you have caught the looks well

Ben looks lovely Carolyn. I'm afraid I can't give you advice about pastels as I can't do anything with them (only make a mess!!)

Thank you Margaret for your kind comment

A super job Carolyn. If you don't mind me suggesting, where your darker shadings are, you could elongate these with more linear markings, this would give the appearance of fur. If the ears were a little more straggly this would also help. Introducing a more mid tone range into the shadings would make your painting rock. Regarding pastel paper, it's very individual to taste but I prefer paper with less tooth. The very fine sand papery ones I love. I tend to use UART from the SAA. Having said all that I think you've captured a wonderful facial expression on Ben. Very good luck Carolyn.

Carole I really appreciate your help.Thank you ever so much

Following a helpful comment from Carole this morning about Maisie, I tried to capture Ben using only soft pastel and pastel pencils. I used pastel paper but my pastels dont seem to like the tooth of the paper....or is it me? ..... I think it is me!!I Although reasonably happy for a beginner I would like to be able to show the fur more distinctly - any advice on how to do so would be gratefully accepted. Are you there Carole? :-)
