Nothing quite like watercolour for capturing the essence of a scene quickly, but there's a lot of skill in this, fine colour judgement, lovely wet-in-wet touches; you'll tell me it's acrylic now! But I'll take a bet on watercolour. Works very well. Do you work up bigger paintings from these studies? Really, they're sufficient in themselves ..

20 April, 12.25pm Kinglas Water, with Butterbridge behind me looking down the valley... the building was used in the winter as shelter to about 60 car loads of people who got stranded in the snow, locals brought hot soup and blankets for them
