Love this Brian, the misty effect and all the people going over the bridge which is painting really well a good strong image in the midst of the painting

Yes, I appreciate the sentiment, and the painting; being quite old, though - I've known a large number of MPs, and a few peers: those I knew were amongst the straightest and best people I ever knew: it's taken a generation of chancers and hypocrites to destroy the reputation of Parliament, and one day we'll realize the damage they've done. In my time I've met Lord Brockway, John Silkin, Eric Heffer, Tony Benn, Norman Buchan, Roy Hattersley, Gerald Kaufmann, Reg Race, Ron Brown, Michael Meacher, Les Huckfield - and many others (mostly on the left, I grant, but a few on the right as well). By comparison with the later generation of MPs and peers, they were as Saints to Satan - it's not that the place has corrupted them: they've corrupted the place.
