Has character; a black and white photograph, I imagine? I don't think you had quite enough information to work from, although you've captured an expression. The head is a little broad; I think the jaw-line would have come in front of the ear lobe, but it appears to sweep right behind the ear, making the shape of the head, including the headscarf, a little unreal. There are one or two other points as well, but rather than dwell on these, may I encourage you to do more portrait work - because you have the basics here, and it's a remarkable start - please don't think me patronizing! It has a lot of force for a first attempt. A little more modelling of the flesh tones and clothing, and more accurate drawing of the anatomical structure, and you will be there.

Thank you, Robert, for your helpful comments - you are not being patronizing at all ! I do appreciate the time you must have spent in analysing the picture. The photograph was not in black and white - but I did change the colours. I shall certainly take your advice on doing more portrait work. Thanks again.
