View From the Prison
My youngest son lives in Norwich and during a recent visit he took me to the cafe at Norwich prison and said how he loved the view. I had to agree and took some photos I couldn't sketch or paint as I had no equipment with me. As he has just moved into as apartment that has lots of wall space I thought I would paint the scene for him and have been playing with various options based on my photos. In this version I have changed the time of day to dusk and think it's very effective. It's painted on quarter imperial Arches, I used colour in my initial washes and variations of grey to produce the silhouette effect. The band of yellow was left to give a light against dark element to the foreground and mimick the last rays of light catching the bushes.
