Thank you Anne, Lewis and Heather for your comments. My method for the masts is simple Heather “fast and free” I find the more careful I am the less convincing they appear.

Ink and wash, initial simple ink drawing followed by my watercolour washes and then back in with my pens to finish off with the addition of a few touches of gouache in places where I lost the light.
