Love the sheer simplicity of this Ashley.

Thanks Jim, if only painting was simple 😁

Tried to comment (very favourably of course) but the website wasn't having it. I've forgotten what I said, but hoping it'll work this time: love the depth of tone, the contrasts, the richness of colour, wish I'd painted it, but though I didn't, you've inspired me. Fingers crossed this one will post.

Ha, it is. It's us that make it complicated (-:

I agree with Jim!

It's laconic and full of expression. You trust your viewer, you don't talk much. The bold and confident patch of black on the right is holding the composition. I like the poetic licence of the foreground.

Thanks Robert, that's very kind and if I've inspired one person then that means everything to me so yes have a go and the result is irrelevant, it's all about the journey 🖌️

You are a very prolific and versatile painter, Ashley!

Painted whilst on holiday for a long weekend. I used some artistic licence to change the foreground with a slightly abstract approach for some interest. I think there's some ink in there too (marker pen). Winsor and Newton on Bockingford paper.
