The shadow of the big tree by Ashley Raddon

I really like this Ashley - very Wyeth.

Sublime

Extremely good, those hard and fast edges make this painting sing.

Interesting and slightly unusual!

Thanks Alan, I like your comment as that's probably like me too, normal and safe paintings to me don't excite me so painting the mundane is more challenging. That did make me smile

Great use of light and shadow Ashley. Your painting has a lovely organic feel about it.

Thanks John, the artist I'm guessing you mean?

Great work. Reminds me of Andrew Wyeth

Thanks everyone, yes it's a great exercise to practice a lot of techniques so to me the subject is not always important, it's trying to master how I handle a brush and paint, see how the paper behaves, take risks, discover new things, which I can take forward into my next painting. Super subject, something that ordinarily you could pass by. Very well painted too.

Thanks Sarah, I always say there's beauty in the mundane rather than a predictable subject

Very interesting theme.

Thanks everyone, it's had the most interactions and comments so thank you

A fascinating subject with different techniques to achieve the desired affect and an illusion of a cast shadow with soft/hard edges. Great fun to paint and a great exercise to practice many watercolour techniques.
